BorderTrack2009

A convey of ten made their way to Pinnaroo and then down the Border Track. Saturday night we camped at Red Bluff and the sales of Glayva should rise after several members took a liking to the samples that Marty was handing out. Marty did a bit of sampling of this and that himself and paid for it the next morning.

The first day was a biggy making it from the Mount Gambier all the way to Leigh Creek where we rewarded ourselves with a bed in a motel.

NOT The Noorla Yo Long Trip

NOT The Noorla Yo Long Trip

It turned out to be a little too wet and hilly to go hanging off ropes at Noorla Yo Long, so we dragged out the fire maps and plotted a course for a day trip. We pretty much had absolutely no idea what it was going to be like. We just picked out as many dotted lines on the maps as we could find and hoped for the best.

Camp Oven Cookout 2007

13 October 2007

It didn’t take long for the boys to take advantage of Wolf’s swamp to get their cars dirty. While it wasn’t deep it was hard going and when Anton made his debut into the mud he soon learned that you need to keep the power on if you want to maintain that forward motion. Of course that also gave Anton the chance to learn the finer art of using a snatch strap. Darren had the clearance to avoid accumulating reeds under the car but Luke’s car looked like it needed a whipper snipper run over its underbelly.

Local Forest Run

local forest run

Participants:
- Ruslan and Grant (Land Rover Defender)
- Luke (Nissan Patrol)
- Mathew and Russel (Toyota Landcruiser)
- Mark (Toyota Landcruiser)
- Adrian, Damian, Mitchell  (Toyota Landcruiser)
- Tim, Jackie, Brenna, Laura, Samuel (Mitsubishi Pajero)

6 cars left our Club House ground that morning, 6 cars safely arrived home later at night. But only 5 cars got into muddy tracks. Suddenly, Luke’s Nissan lost left rear wheel on the way to our destination. No major damage, about 1 hour to get it fixed. Nissan had been parked in good safe place, and we were back on track. On the way back to home we picked up Luke’s Patrol and escorted him up to his house.

Little Desert Trip

26 May 2007

Little DesertJanet and Russell, Leon and Fiona, Chris and Marty and Nissa and Callun joined us for the weekend.  The park is divided into three sections and we entered the Central Block via the Edenhope road and then on to the McDonald Highway (a sandy track, not the highway past McDonalds).  Good Aussie sense of humor to call a 4WD track a highway.  Our first stop is Broughton’s Waterhole, which is a very picturesque spot and would make a great camp spot. A couple of kilometers up the track we stop at Wild Dog spring to find nothing but a depression in the ground.  After a few minutes of gazing at the hole we decided there really was nothing to see.

A pleasant surprise at Watervalley

24 March 2007

Given the media bombardment of a drought stricken country, we were somewhat wary of what Watervalley Wetlands may be like for our Easter trip. Turns out that despite the lack of boggy wetlands, our concerns were unwarranted.

Echuca-Barmah State Park

14 June 2005

Echuca-Barmah State ParkThe participants: Grant & Caroline, Jim & Lynne, Leighton & Debbie, Ruslan & Natalia, Nelly & Victoria.

On Friday June 10 at 3:45pm we were on our way and it wasn’t long before we had the windscreen wipers on, which is how they stayed most of the way to Echuca. As we rolled into Hamilton, everybody was in agreement that take away was the go for tea. We battled wind, rain and traffic to Lake Bolac where we turned and headed for Ararat, Avoca & Maryborough where a stop was needed for toilets and to consult the maps. Time was slipping by, so after a discussion with a Ballarat 4WD club member passing by, the decision was made to go to Castlemaine & Bendigo to Echuca. Finally around 10pm and some 525kms later we had arrived After more map consultation we quickly found Ruslan & Natalia’s accommodation and then the rest of us found our way to our shared cabin.
