NOT The Noorla Yo Long Trip

NOT The Noorla Yo Long Trip

It turned out to be a little too wet and hilly to go hanging off ropes at Noorla Yo Long, so we dragged out the fire maps and plotted a course for a day trip. We pretty much had absolutely no idea what it was going to be like. We just picked out as many dotted lines on the maps as we could find and hoped for the best.

Our fellow adventurers were Matty and Leanne Goetze, Trevor Buckell and partner (please accept my most humble apologies but I can’t for the life of me remember her name), Mark and Kate Peberdy and Sabrina who was making her debut trip with the club.

It wasn’t long before were off the “bitty” and as we blindly followed our map we started to get little tit bits from tail end Charlie (Matty Goetze) about where the track was leading, where it came out and what to expect. Mark Peberdy was also familiar with the area and gave us some pointers so after we stopped at our first mud patch we dragged Matty from the back, put him up front and Russell and I took over at the back. Sabrina was a bit wary of her first encounter with mud but Matty was good enough to jump in the car with her while she maneuvered around in the slush. After that there was no holding her back when we struck our next puddle.

Leanne turned out to a bit of a go getter and kicked Matty out of the driver’s seat a couple of times so she could put the beast through its paces. From mud to rock, there’s nothing like a bit of diversity. I’m not sure if Matty was trying to drive over this one or just parking the car, but either way he got stuck.

We found a short challenging hill that some gave a miss, but Trevor and Mark managed to pull it off. As for Russell...

I think I can...

Buggar it!.... mumble, mumble, turbo, mumble, mumble, diff locks, mumble, mumble….

Needless to say I tuned in my selective hearing and we all toddled off to Millicent and made our way through the Wind Farm to visit Gizzy who was working on some repairs and gave the fellas a tour. Pebbles and Pine Road and a couple of other back roads brought us out just above Badenochs deli where, much to Leanne’s delight (and Matty’s relief) we stopped for an icecream. Apparently it was a condition of Leanne joining the trip that Matty got her an icecream.
